Mold Assessment

As of January 2016, according to NYS Mold Bill S3667, all mold projects are required to involve a licensed, third-party assessor through the New York State Department of Labor. Turn Key Home & Mold Inspections is fully qualified to provide professional mold assessments before any mold remediation takes place. We protect you by providing an independent assessment of the mold in your property. We’ll confirm the presence of mold and make recommendations regarding the proper treatment of the mold. Once your remediation company has completed their work, we can re-assess the space to ensure all mold is gone. Our mold assessments provide you with peace of mind both before and after mold remediation on your property.

Although you may want to skip the mold inspection process and move straight to mold remediation as a precaution, that’s not the way it works. For your protection, it’s actually a requirement in New York State that mold testing be done before remediation can be authorized. You couldn’t ask for a more qualified team than Turn Key Home & Mold Inspections to manage your commercial or residential mold testing. We’ll come to the project with a number of benefits for you and the health and safety of your building, including:

  • 21 years of experience

  • A commitment to honest testing

  • Timely and accurate results

  • Service seven days a week

  • Emergency mold inspection (as needed)

  • And much more!

Most importantly, we avoid a conflict of interest by keeping our mold detection services separate from any subsequent mold cleanup and remediation work that might be needed. It just doesn’t make sense to use the same contractor for both your mold inspection and your mold removal efforts. By relying on the honest mold testing technicians at Turn Key Home & Mold Inspections, you’re safeguarded against unscrupulous mold testing companies that could try to take advantage of your fears. Not only do we give you documentation of a mold problem and connect you to reputable remediation companies, but we also come back to conduct a second mold inspection as a follow up to the mold removal. Our mold detection job isn’t over until the tests allow us to give our customers in Rochester, NY a clean bill of health.

Offering Mold Inspections and Mold Testing in Rochester NY

  • Is Turn Key Home & Mold Inspections licensed to test mold?
Yes, all members of Turn Key have taken the NYS DOL certification course.
  • What is the difference between a mold inspection and a mold assessment?
A mold inspection consists of the initial visual inspection. Sometimes, the client just wants a sample to prove it is or is not mold. A mold assessment is a combination of a visual, sampling and moisture survey to determine the extent of mold and if it has cross contaminated the home. All the data found is analyzed and the mold assessment is written within the NYS DOL Article 32 Standards. The assessment is what allows you to have proper mold remediation.
  • Can a homeowner conduct mold removal on their own?
Yes, but only the homeowners, but understand without proper equipment (Negative air filtration machine, HEPA vacuum, Disinfectants and encapsulation etc.) you take a chance of making the situation worse and not better.
  • What is examined during a mold inspection?
First, we look at the concerned area and make any notes on what we see. Then we look for moisture sources that could be assisting the possible mold. Lastly, we look to see if anyone in the home could be having any health-related issues.
  • What tools are utilized to detect the presence of mold?
For air sampling, we use a Zefon portable air sampling kit with Allergenco D air cassettes. For surface sampling, we use a swab sample or a tape lift sample. In instances with humidity and inner wall leaks, we will use an infrared camera that can detect leaks or air loss and then provides a moisture reading and humidity levels.
  • Will I receive reporting of the mold testing or mold assessment?
Yes, you will receive thorough documentation from the mold assessor and the third-party laboratory.
  • Can I use bleach to clean mold?
Bleach can kill mold, but it depends on the surface you are using bleach on and the spore content within the home. Bleach is meant for non-porous surfaces. If applied to a porous surface the chances of regrowth are very high.
  • Why do you not offer mold remediation services?
In accordance with NYS DOL critical 32, you can only provide a mold assessment or provide mold remediation. In my opinion this would be unethical to do both aspects of the job. Checks and balances are always a positive.
